Project Timeline
-
1999-2000: the
FMWG developed an assessment approach which
was vetted by an international panel of ecosystem scientists.
-
2000 – 2003:
the FMWG conducted a pilot study involving assessments of forest
sensitivity in Vermont and Newfoundland. The group then solicited,
received, and incorporated feedback from federal, state, and private
forestry professionals and scientists.
-
The pilot study
report was presented to the Governors and Premiers in September
2003.
-
In late 2003
preliminary regional assessments for MA and PQ were completed.
-
During 2004 work
is underway on NH, RI, CT, NB, NS, and ON. We are seeking funding
to begin the assessment process in ME.
-
Additional
research activities include: site-specific assessments, ground-truth
and accuracy assessments, comparative studies with forest health
measurements, and collaborative research.
-
If funding
becomes available, sensitivity assessments for the remaining
jurisdictions could be completed by 2005.
